This is normally on a personal one to one basis at your own PC, learning how to use your computer effectively.

Please bear in mind that "tutoring" can cover anything at all, for example,

  • The very basics of computer use in the home or office.
  • The knowledge needed to pass the increasingly valuable European Computing Driving Licence (ECDL).
  • Proficiency in a particular application, e.g. E-mail or word processing.
  • Assistance in mastering a more complex program such as Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Often people can get stuck with something (like E-mail) and it only takes a short session of 1 to 1 tuition for everything to make sense.

I am experienced in PC training for the elderly, and have worked for Age Concern (Scotland) in that capacity.

I have also worked for Edinburgh University Settlement’s Microbeacon Centre teaching the ECDL program to a wide mix of unemployed people, people with various disabilities and ethnic minorities. Finally, I have lectured in Computing & Multimedia at Jewel & Esk Valley College and Edinburgh's Telford College.

Just ask, I will be happy to help out with any software at all even if I have to learn it first!

Here are some topics in which I have been training people:

Really, the sky's the limit. If you're stuck I can help you out. Remember, you can't know too little. You won't be made to feel stupid!

It's called 1 to 1 tuition, but it basically means 1 session on 1 computer, so if you have two or three of you that should be ok.

Bear in mind though that the more people who are trying to pick things up, the slower the overall session tends to run, and there is no substitute for hands-on practise where you are in charge of the computer, not me!

Larger group sessions are also possible, pricing and location by negotiation.
